As part of our Outdoor Education program, we have booked a ski trip to Table Mountain for Grades 5-8 students on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Parents and guardians are welcome to join us for the day. At this time we do not know if there will be room on the bus for parents or only for students. Parents who wish to attend may need to arrange their own transportation and will be responsible for their own costs at Table Mountain.
We have chartered a bus for the trip. Each bus has room for forty-seven passengers. The bus will be at the school at 8:15 a.m. with a departure time of 8:30 a.m. This will allow us to arrive at the hill by 9:45 a.m. when the facility opens and to put in a full day of skiing. We will depart form Table Mountain at 3:30 p.m. We should arrive back at Fairhaven School at approximately 5:00 p.m.
During the day, each student will participate in ski / snowboard lesson. Students who have never gone skiing or snowboarding are encouraged to choose to ski. Students will be assigned an appropriate instructional group based upon their previous skiing / snowboarding experience. Students are invited to bring their own equipment (skies / snowboards, poles and boots) or they may rent them at Table Mountain. A summary of costs is provided below:
Skiers

NOTE: Snowboarders are encouraged to provide their own equipment. All personal snowboards must have leashes.
The following reminders will help to make your child`s ski trip as enjoyable as possible:
Ø Students will be required to provide their own meals. For lunch, they may bring a bag lunch. It is also a good idea to bring some healthy snacks and a water bottle for during the day.
Ø Students are asked to dress appropriately for outdoor weather using layers of clothing. Students should bring a small gym bag or back pack to store their lunch and extra clothing.
Ø Students are asked to leave all valuables at home. Any items brought on the trip are brought at the owner`s risk. Neither Table Mountain or the school will not be responsible for missing items. Items such as Discmans or MP3 players are better left at home.
Ø Table Mountain requires the school day disclaimer be completed in full and signed by a parent or legal guardian. Please return the disclaimer to the school by Friday March 4th, 2011.
Ø Students are required to wear helmets and are encouraged to wear wrist guards. Helmets will be provided for students at Table Mountain. If students are bringing their own equipment it must include an approved helmet.
Students unable to join us for the ski trip are expected to attend school as usual. Arrangements will be made for their supervision and instruction during the day.
To confirm your child`s participation in the ski / snowboarding trip, the attached disclaimer form and payment for the appropriate amount must be submitted to the school by Friday March 4th, 2011. Send cash or make cheques payable to Fairhaven School.
